2012 Nutrition Workshop
Promoting Healthy Habits Right From the Start

As a child care provider, you play an important role in preventing early childhood obesity. Children who consume a diet low in energy-dense, nutrient-poor foods and rich in nutrient-dense whole grains, fruits, vegetables, low-fat or fat-free milk, and lean proteins are less likely to be overweight or obese. The Institute of Medicine report, Early Childhood Obesity Prevention Policies, makes six recommendations for "best practices" at child care centers that would help ensure that children aged 0-5 have access to a variety of nutritious foods which contribute to healthy growth and could reduce obesity risk. This workshop focuses on best practices for promoting healthy eating and physical activity and will show how child care centers can easily implement best practices in their child care centers.
